There is so much going on right now. Here are some of the things I’ll be writing about:
- O
n March 9 I’ll be moderating a panel at South by Southwest Interactive about social media’s impact on the legislative process. It’s called “The Unruly Mob would Like to Comment.“
- Nextdoor.com is a great new tool for communication among neighbors, but will it replace the Yahoo group? You will get a ringside seat as our neighborhood picks sides.
- Hackers will teach Austinites how to turn data into online maps on February 22 when Open Austin hosts a Geospatial Jam.
- Teams are already forming for a citywide event that will happen May 31st as part of the National Day of Civic Hacking called “ATXHackforChange: Austin’s Second Annual Celebration of Civic Hacking.”
- I’ll be posting the first in the Technology Initiative series soon — a summary of our experience using Twitter in a legislative committee environment.
February 13 is World Radio Day, a time to recognize the contribution of broadcast radio to society.
- I applied for the GovLab Academy but didn’t make the cut. I’m looking forward to following the course and seeing what we can apply here.
- I was a beta tester for the Travis County Elections Return site. This site will make it much easier to access and analyze voting patterns.
- Steven Clift has started an interesting Facebook group on open government. It already has 300 members.
- But first, insights from a workshop on how government agencies can hackathon their way to greatness.
